Another day, another Garmin Connect problem [solved]

update: seems they solved this quickly. Once their server was fixed, my apps started working again, no changes were needed on my side.

Garmin Connect is malfunctioning again. If you go to their website, and try to log in, you don't even get the login form. The progress wheel keeps spinning, and nothing happens. My app fails to login as well. Internally, I get a "server error" message. So, if you're experiencing this problem, it's not an issue with the app. I can't fix their servers.

Once they restore the service, I'll verify if they made any breaking change, in which case I'll do what needs to be done to fix my apps accordingly.

If you want updates on this, please follow the sportablet account on facebook or twitter.  If you won't, next time you have a problem please check the blog first :-)

Do you use the official license Garmin API now? Or will this fail when they permanently turn it off and block access to non-partners in January 2015?

Garvey: revenues from my app do not even come close to justify the $5000 fee garmin wants for an api key. People are not really keen on paying for / support this software, and yeah, spreading fear / uncertainty / doubts about the long term viability of my app is not going to help, thanks : ).

It is left to see how garmin intends to keep the indies out of their lawn. In practice, they'll have to remove features for web users as well in order to do so. If they don't, apps like mine may break (as they did in the past), but there will always be a way to fix them, as I've done before (and not just for garmin connect: endomondo, runtastic don't offer an api either).

Since you seem to have gathered information somewhere about the dreaded january 2015, it would be nice to know where : )
