Got a smartphone or a small-screen tablet? check out the Uploader for Garmin!

Sportablet 2.1 shares to Facebook

Today I released Sportablet 2.1. Besides a small improvement in the detection code for Edge models and a few Forerunner models, and a patch for a TCX export problem related to regional settings, the most significant change is the ability to share directly to Facebook.  Here is how it works:
- Post your activity to Garmin Connect (see previous entry in this blog). Leave the "public" checkmark on.
- The "Post to facebook" link will turn blue. Click on it. The following dialog will appear:

add a message, that will be placed on top of your post. You can also edit the activity details if you want. After you click Ok, you'll have to give the app permission to post to your wall. This is the usual Facebook security procedure, and you'll only have to do it once. After that, the activity will be posted to your wall, and you'll get a confirmation message:

this is how it will appear (in this case, I typed "hello from my tablet" as a message)

The "check it out!" links points to your Garmin Connect activity.

I know many of you guys would love to see a miniature map instead of my logo. While technically feasible, I'm still investigating the licensing options, pricing, etc (taking snapshot of maps is often forbidden or subject to various licensing forms).

Sportablet 2.0 can upload your activities directly to Garmin Connect. That means you never have to leave your Android tablet or do a manual upload. Here is how it works: open your activity, click on Share, then on Post to Garmin Connect:

Enter your Garmin Connect username and password (for convenience, they will be saved on your tablet). You can also choose to make the activity public, that is, to unlock the lock pad for you so that other people can see your activity. Sportablet will log in for you, upload your file, make it public if necessary. In the end, you'll get a screen like this:

The hyperlink is a real hyperlink :-), so if you click it, your browser will open up and show that page.

Next steps: share the Garmin Connect link on twitter and facebook directly from Sportablet, perhaps with a nice map preview as well :-).
