Got a smartphone or a small-screen tablet? check out the Uploader for Garmin!

Forerunner 405/405CX/410 and Android Smartphones

The Uploader for Garmin version 2.1 provides beta-level support for the first batch of ANT+ Garmin Forerunners (405, 405CX, 410). Other ANT+ models will follow. The app is targeting mobile phones and small-screen tablets, and has already been tested on the Samsung S3 (Android 4.1.1, ROM version: I9300XXBLH1). If you have a mobile phone with an internal ANT+ chip (mostly the Sony Xperia family), see here for details.

Like for the big brother Sportablet, the Uploader requires that you install some services on your phone / tablet and that you set up your watch. See here for a detailed, step-by-step explanation of everything you need to make it work.

Please send me a log if you try out the beta. I really need to check what is going on with different Garmin models and tablets / phones. The ANT+ log is very detailed and can get a little too long for some email apps, so:

- try the app with device diagnostics off, just to check that it works.

- if the app works, enable device diagnostics (under "my options"), turn on the watch again, and enable everything on your watch as you did before. The app will see that there are no new activities and will stop earlier. Send me that log using the red button, thanks :-).

- if the app does not work for your device / tablet, enable device diagnostics, set up your watch as described in my previous post, try to upload. The app will retry for a long while, so at some point you may want to stop it and send me the log.

Do you have any idea about the list of phones on which this app works smoothly so we can buy that one only.

A list of known working phone / garmin pairs is here:

If you step outside the Xperia family, you need to connect the ANT+ dongle using an OTG cable.

Personally, I use a Sony Xperia Ion with an internal ant+ chip. It works fine with the 910xt and 405. When connected with an OTG adapter, it works fine with the 305 as well. The edge 500 requires a powered hub as it's taking too much power from the usb.

I tried to get data from Forerunner 405 by Sony Xperia Arc S. Phone and watch communicated with each other ... they paired first and then started transfer, but then transfer failed and so couple times. Any suggestion what went wrong?

Enn, see the various suggestions here, also in the comments:

turning all data source off usually helps; there is also a delay ack option that you may want to try. The others have no influence on the 405.

Stay away from wifi sources, the chip in the xperia has very little transmission power, quite a few people solved transmission problems just by stepping outside the office : )
