Got a smartphone or a small-screen tablet? check out the Uploader for Garmin!

Garmin Connect: Fixed

2/13/2014

Uploading to Garmin Connect has been fixed in Sportablet 6.3 / Uploader for Garmin 5.4. I've just pushed those versions to Google Play, so it may take a few hours before you get them.

Two important notes:

- quite a people are still having problems uploading to Garmin Connect from their PC. Just check the garmin connect forums or their facebook page. Some have problems with altitude charts not showing up. Some have issues with altitude correction being enabled when it shouldn't (I've seen this myself). Some have problems with valid files being rejected. If you run into similar problems using my app, please understand that I have no control over that. I'm sending the exact same data I was sending before, just with a slightly different envelope (so to speak).

- Garmin does not have an official API to upload data to garmin connect. Things can break. When they do, I'll try to fix them, but no, writing angry emails, downrating the app, and general nastiness are not going to speed things up (quite the opposite).

The last few days have been somewhat intoxicating. I never got so much hate; thankfully, it was at least partially compensated by some of you guys having nice words for the apps (thanks). Still, it is rather obvious that these apps are bringing me in a place I don't want to be. I started this as the guy making the app nobody wanted to write. Not Garmin, not Strava, not Endomondo, not Runkeeper, not Training Peaks, not SportTracks, not Runtastic, no indie, nobody. I'm ending up as the bad guy who stole your money, your data, your happiness, your trust in mankind, your chance to be a world champion if you could have just uploaded those !@#$ data. I'm sure there is a lesson to be learnt there : )

I want to say thanks for all of your hard work. I just found out about your app and just upgraded to the full app. It is exactly what I needed. Thanks for getting this issue resolved so quickly. Hopefully Garmin becomes a little more developer friendly!!!!

Hello Carlo,

For me, you are the guy who wrote the app allowing to upload data from the Garmin GPS to the smartphone, and from the smartphone to the connect.garmin site without using a PC.

A great THANK YOU for this.

Do you think the user community could put some pressure on Garmin's shoulders to get more support, or API's ?

overall, garmin is one of the most developer-friendly manufacturers. The overabundance of web sites where you can upload from a garmin watch (using your pc) is a direct consequence of them offering free code to do that easily. Of course, a public api would be nicer. At some point, they had a plan to make it public, then they stepped back. I don't blame them in any way, it's a complex, fast moving market, and they're probably trying to adjust their strategy as they can.

So the count of people still having problems is now up to 4. Still, I need more details to help:
- which error you get
- do you get it with all activities or just 1
probably better to move this to email, it's hard to keep track of everything on the blog

The error after uploading come with a Garmin link with null , normally its activity id which confirm upload success
