Uploading to Garmin Connect is broken [solved]

Update: a fix for this issue has been pushed to google play. Check the blog for news.

Please, if you want updates on this, follow the sportablet account un facebook or twitter. I can either spend my time trying to fix the app or answering all the emails :-).

A couple of days ago, the folks at Garmin made some changes to their website, specifically to the file upload part, which is no longer compatible with my app. There is no official support for third-party apps uploading to Garmin Connect, so this may happen at any time. When it does, I have to understand their change and find a way for my apps to do whatever is needed.

Now, guys, please understand that the only reason I have been able to spend all this time (and some money) on these completely unprofitable apps is that I have a real job. However, that means that I'm often busy doing things which cannot be interrupted to fix the apps, or to send an immediate personal answer to everyone who's having troubles uploading. In fact, I've had no time till now to do anything; I don't even know the magnitude of the change or how long it's going to take to fix the apps. I'll have a little time tomorrow.

To all of you who sent me an email about the problem: thanks for the head-up. Sorry, you'll have a wait a little more.

To the few of you who sent me an email every 20 minutes: please keep calm. It's not global termo-nuclear war. You're not having open heart surgery either. You can always export the file to sd card and upload manually to garmin connect if it's that urgent.

To the few of you who thought the best way to deal with this was to hurry to google play and downrate the app: these apps are meant for nice people. Please consider uninstalling.

Thanks for the response. Too bad about garmin changing their website. Good luck with a fix, I've been very happy with the app. Thanks for the response. Everyone take a deep breath and chill.

Thanks for the email. I have been happy with the app up to now. I also appreciate that it is not in your control that Garmin should change their web site. The export to GPX, and upload from that does work so it is a nice work round for now.
Good luck in sorting out "the mess"

Sorry to to hear that you are taking heat. The app is great! It is impressive that the hardest part, wireless ant interface worked flawlessly.

Btw - I have one pc that won't upload activities or download workouts either. I do have one laptop that works. So it isn't just your app having problems.

Also, glad to hear it is a known issue.

Bit of bummer on garmins's part, but that's the way things go!
Good luck with the fix, we need it :-)

I've been really happy with the app, so good luck with the fixes.
It may be worthwhile posting brief instructions on the manual upload. I'm having trouble remembering where the files are stored!

Just click "save to sd card" instead of "send to garmin connect". The app will save the file and tell you where. It's normally under /mnt/sdcard/Downloads/Sportablet but might be a different path on some phones.

Note, however, that part of the problem is that with this change Garmin is rejecting some files also during manual upload from their website. Some valid TCX files are not accepted anymore (there are complaints on their facebook page / forums). FIT and GPX appear to be working fine, but export to gpx in my apps is limited.

While I'm at it: there are many complaints on forums / facebook about missing altitude data or altitude correction after they changed the website. So if you guys get that, it's not that my app is not exporting the right file anymore : )

Thx for the heads up. Have been enjoying the uploader app for quite a while and will continue to do so. Hopefully Garmin gets their stuff sorted soon. Noticed indeed that manual upload also is not a guaranteed success.

Thanks for the quick reply and link to this page. Good luck with the fix; I'll be patient (and of course can manually upload fit files meanwhile).

It seems Endomondo has changed their system also. The upload from STUPLOADER does not work, although manual upload seems to work Ok.

You've created an extremely useful app. I'll run 10km but walking upstairs to the PC is just too much effort ;) Don't worry we'll stick with you!

One way I've gotten around this problem in the mean time is to email the .fit file to yourself via the app, then download the file on a computer and upload the file manually to Garmin Connect.

I use the dropbox app to sync to my computer, but yes, same thing. Unfortunately the Garmin Connect site won't accept uploads from mobile browsers - just another way it's broken, I suppose. I wish it was possible to email tracks to Garmin, like it is with Strava.

Wow! Fantastic. I just updated to the latest and it worked perfectly for my Garmin Forerunner 310XT. In fact I like it better than the Garmin Ant+ driver for uploading to PC. Your app gives me more control. With the Garmin uploaded it just slams everything up to the web site without any choice from me. Also, of course it is way more convenient to upload to my phone instead of firing up a PC.
