Got a smartphone or a small-screen tablet? check out the Uploader for Garmin!

Version 2.0 uploads directly to Garmin Connect

6/9/2012

Sportablet 2.0 can upload your activities directly to Garmin Connect. That means you never have to leave your Android tablet or do a manual upload. Here is how it works: open your activity, click on Share, then on Post to Garmin Connect:
Picture
Enter your Garmin Connect username and password (for convenience, they will be saved on your tablet). You can also choose to make the activity public, that is, to unlock the lock pad for you so that other people can see your activity. Sportablet will log in for you, upload your file, make it public if necessary. In the end, you'll get a screen like this:
Picture
The hyperlink is a real hyperlink :-), so if you click it, your browser will open up and show that page.

Next steps: share the Garmin Connect link on twitter and facebook directly from Sportablet, perhaps with a nice map preview as well :-).

Carlo
Great program, thanks. But it is asking me to purchase a program for $6.40 and give my credit card

Well Clint, that's called an in-app purchase. The app is free to try. When you first upload, one of the activities is unlocked so that you can see what the app can do. However, to unlock the app you have to purchase a license. That's done through google play as usual, so it's not really the app asking for a credit card, is google. Not every app is free.

It takes money and time to develop an app like this (it's not like Garmin is giving me their devices for free). Of course, it's ok if you don't want to buy it, but without support from the community, the app will never really grow.

Hi Dan,
as stated on google play and on this website, at this time Sportablet is for 10" tablets only, for smaller tablets and smartphones you have to use my Uploader for Garmin instead.

am I able to update more than 1 activity at a time to garmin connect? I want to buy the product but if I can't "bulk" upload to garmin connect, it's too time consuming.

sorry Jamo, it's one at a time.

Since the app runs on a mobile device, people usually upload at the end of each activity (unlike with the PC where they tend to accumulate stuff in the watch).

Unfortunately that doesn't fit my use case. I'm a 100% linux user and the garmin uploader is one of the rare things I have to use a windows VM for. I'd like to get rid of the windows requirement and do bulk uploads from your app.

Thanks for the response.

I agree, a bulk upload feature would be awesome!

I've already purchased the app but beg you to add a button to bulk upload all new activities - please! :-)

Is it possible to import then upload .tcx or .gpx files to my Garmin Connect? I'm using a rooted motoactiv which automatically dumps the .tcx files to my phone. I can then upload them manually from my pc. I'd LOVE to be able to do that right from my phone!

Jon, not with the current version. The app is looking for a Garmin device, not for files. Still, this has been requested a few times before, and in practice, the app can do 98% of the work involved.
I'll give a shot at the remaining 2% this week, if I can manage to find some time. Please get in touch via email (or contact form here) and send me one of your tcx files, so that I can check for compatibility first (all tcx are not created equal :-)

PLEASE! I also run a rooted MotoActv and have been trying desperately for an automated solution to upload to Garmin Connect! I already have a MotoActv exporter running that publishes all my workouts as TCX's and a script running that pushes them to my phone and dropbox via bluetooth/wifi. Getting it to GarminConnect and Strava though... beyond my rudimentary code skills.

Jon, I've had no time so far to properly blog about this, but if you get the latest version of the app, you simply have to go in options, click on "force files path", set the path where your tcx are (case sensitive as usual in android) and you're set. The app will load all the tcx that you put there (only new files are loaded). You don't need to set any other option.

Hello Carlo I trying to buy the application but from Italy it is not possible to use Google wallet. Is there any other option?
Many thanks

it's definitely possible to purchase the app from Italy through google play, people do it all the time. There is a general issue with google play when you use AMEX cards, you can't buy an app which is priced in euros with that kind of card. Don't know if that is your problem though.

Hi Carlos,

Still no intentions of bulk uploads (or automatic uploads) to garmin connect?

Thanks for this great app.

Hi Hector,
the roadmap is always here:
http://www.sportablet.com/contacts.html

if it's not in the roadmap, it's not around the corner.

In the end, the response by the community has been "we like the apps but we don't want to pay for software". Like everyone, I have limited spare time, and sometimes, the choice is between going out for a run or working on the apps. So yeah, progress is slow...

Hi Carlo,

I agree with Jamo above, a bulk uploader would be much more useful as I tend to only connect and upload once a week or so, so having to upload each activity to Garmin connect is cumbersome. If there was a bulk uploader then I would purchase the app but for now it's easier for me to use my computer instead.

Thx for that great App! One of the most beneficial apps I ve ever purchased :-)

But is it possible to upload several acitivites (in my case 97) in one single step to garmin connect? Or do I have to upload each activity on its own?

Thanks for an answer, Christian!

Hi. I have an issue with uploading. When I have 2 activities waiting on my Edge 500 the uploader will only allow me to view and export the earliest one. In the report it sees 2 activities. I have a Samsung galaxy s6.

Garmin uploader is great. A bulk upload - select all to upload is a significant missing feater. Despite tour ass umed use cases :)

I bought the app its great.

G'day Carlo. Publishing to Garmin Connect has stopped working for me. Everything was working fine a few days ago but now it just keeps coming up with a connection error. login details are good and I can login online ok. I can also publish direct to Strava and Training Peaks from the app no problem but not garmin connect. I am using your Garmin uploader on a Samsung Tab A 8" tablet. Download from watch is perfect just not that one export function...guess you will need a log file but cant work out how to do that, I have selected diagnostics etc...

Hi,
I just buy sportablet and i don't have the 'share' button tout send to gamin site.

Also, i have à 910xt. Could you tell me when it would be possible to send course to this de vice?

if you can't see the button, you bought the wrong app. sportablet is for 10", 4/3 tablets only, as explained here and in google play. If you have a different device, you need my uploader for garmin, which works with any screen size (the entire idea of "try before you buy" is that one can actually try before buying : )

So, please send me your order number using the contact form above, and I'll refund your purchase.

I do not have an estimate on that feature. At this time, given that the app is earning very little money, all I can do is maintenance, no new developments.
