Garmin Etrex, Foretrex, GpsMap and Oregon
Some settings are needed for both the Garmin and the app. Please see this blog post.
Google Nexus 5, 7, 10
The Nexus 5 and 7 are supported by my Uploader for Garmin. The full-fledged Sportablet app, at this time, does not render well on the Nexus.
The Nexus 7 are known to work fine with the Forerunner 305, and that generally means that most of the "old" Garmin devices, like:
- Forerunner 201, 301, 205, 305
- Edge 205, 305
- The Etrex, Foretrex, etc in spanner mode
should work just fine.
Also, the newest forerunner models (being ANT+ based) work fine as well.
However, by default the Nexus won't mount usb flash drives. See this tutorial if you have a file-based garmin device.
The usb on Nexus 4 can't mount any device at all.

Tablets / Phones from Samsung
Besides what is being said in the garmin-specific tutorials and pages above (that I recommend you to read) there are known USB issues with early Samsung devices, both phones and tablets. In early Galaxy models, Samsung put a USB whitelist, effectively preventing a generic USB device from being exposed to Android (only flash drives, cameras and a few more device types are allowed). The whitelist prevents some early Forerunner / Edge models (301, 205, 305) from working. The only known solution is to install a different ROM, removing the whitelist. Only some ROMs fix the USB issue. Known working ROMs are documented here. Please understand that installing a new ROM, even more so an unofficial ROM, is not for the casual user and you should only attempt this if you're comfortable with technology, and, it goes without saying, under your own responsibility.
Galaxy Tab 10.1, GT-P7510
There is a working, unofficial ROM with Android 4.04 (thanks to Marco Steege for finding and testing it)
BinDroid XTC V5.0.1
GT-P7510:4.0.4/IMM76D/XXLPH:user/release-keys
the ROM has been downloaded from here. Please double-check what you're doing. This link was ok September 2, 2012.
Galaxy S3, GT-I9300
The Galaxy S3 has been reported to work with the Sportablet Uploader for Garmin only with the newest official ROM:
Galaxy S3 GT-I9300, Android 4.04, ROM: I9300BUBLG3.
Earlier models seem to suffer from the same problem above, that is, the device is not exposed. Using that version, the Forerunner 305 works fine too.
If you have issues with a different Samsung device, and don't mind playing around with custom ROMs, please get in touch. If we can make it work on your model, you'll get good karma :-) from all the other guys with the same device, and a free activation code for Sportablet or the Uploader.

Tablet: Archos 101 G9
Don't use the USB 2 connector (the large one), although it seems to fit the Forerunner / Edge / USB Key connector. It won't work. You need to use the micro USB connector + the appropriate USB OTG adapter (thanks to Christoph Soukup for this tip).
Kogan Agora
The Kogan won't pass the USB device up to the app, but can still be used with some devices, like Edge 500, 705, 800, Forerunner 110, 210. You need to set a few options in the Uploader:
- check the "force flash drive scan"
- click "force flash drive path" and set it to
/mnt/usbhost1
Check the spelling, and remember that Android is case-sentitive. It must be set exactly as above. If you have any issue, please get in touch.

Power Issues
Some phones / tablets do not provide power on the USB connector, even if you use and OTG adapter. Others do not provide sufficient power; sometimes they warn about a high power device being connected, sometimes they don't. In this case, they may not mount the Garmin or have glitches during download. The solution here is to either:
- connect through a powered USB hub. You need a hub with its own power supplier, obviously those taking power from the host USB won't work.
- alternatively, connect your Garmin using a USB Y-Cable and a charger (the Garmin charger is often ok). Be careful with the connections. There are many tutorials around, also on youtube. In doubt, check one of those.
The connection sequence seems to be very important for some tablets / phones. What I've found to work more reliably is to:
1) plug the Garmin into the hub
2) plug the hub into the OTG adapter
3) plug the OTG adapter into the phone / tablet
In quite a few cases, doing (3) out of order simply won't work.
