The Uploader for GarminThe Uploader for Garmin provides the essential features implemented in Sportablet, with a compact user interface, designed for mobile phones and small-screen tablets.
If you have a phone / tablet with an internal ANT+ chip (some Sony Xperia, some Samsung: see a list here), and an ANT+ Forerunner, you don't need any cable or USB dongle to make the two talk. The app can simply use the internal chip. See here for details. Otherwise, please keep in mind that this app requires access to the USB. The Android platform is very fragmented in USB support, especially on mobile phones. Known working phones and Garmin devices are listed here. See on the right, or here, for details and instructions. If you still can't connect your device, or if your tablet / phone is not listed, please turn on device diagnostics under "options", then click "get new" and send me the log: I'll do my best to help you. Note: some Garmin devices (FR305, most Edge models, the Fenix) tend to drain too much power from the USB. Some phones / tablets can't handle that. Some will warn about a "high power device" being connected. Some won't, but still silently disconnect the USB. In those cases, you have to provide external power, using a powered USB hub or a USB Y-cable and a charger. See this tutorial. |
Supported Garmin devicesThe Uploader uses the same communication layer powering Sportablet, so it supports the same set of Garmin devices:
The Edge 500, 705 and 800, as well as the Forerunner 10, 110 and 210, will mount as flash drives. That may require a little time (up to 30 seconds). The device won't be seen until it gets mounted. |

Known working phones / tablets
I used to show a list of known working combos here, but it quickly got outdated. It's almost impossible to keep up with android devices and versions. Generally speaking:
- some android models have built-in ANT+ receivers, so you can use that for full-fledged ANT+ devices (see list above, or read the tutorial for your model).
- otherwise, support for USB HOST MODE / OTG MODE is required.
- some garmin models are like mass storages, in which case you need an android device that (unlike e.g. the Nexus family) does not block external storage
